"Lucy Beresford gives a really good insight into all of her characters and the motives behind their actions and choices, creating a real sense of empathy. There are loads of issues which could be opened up for a discussion/debate, particularly regarding people’s thoughts about parenting and some people’s choice not to have children at all. However, there are also other issues touched on, such as the attitude to gay vicars and the effect of the past on decisions you make as an adult. Over-all, a very thought provoking novel."
